“The biggest little city in the world” has again opened its doors to controllers and pilots wishing to venture its unique airspace.

We will need 24/7 coverage (12 Sept, 5pm PDT to 19 Sept, 5pm PDT).

Join us to help achieve this goal!

VFR saturdays!!

Photobucket

Due to the great response we had doing VFR familiarization flights; we thought this would be a great opportunity to incorporate this idea into a “ZOA gathering”. You can choose to fly or control (SMT’s can control). Some of us will be on TeamSpeak to communicate between each other. Pick your favorite plane or tower and have some fun.

How To Fly The PORTE3 Departure Without Turning Right
by Inigo Markle-Allen

Updated December 2007

One of the most widely used departures in the Oakland ARTCC is the PORTE 3 departure from San Francisco Int’l (KSFO). This is mainly because it’s the departure you’ll get when flying SFO-LAX, which is one of the most popular routes on VATSIM. However, too often pilots either don’t know the procedure and go directly to their first fix, or load it up from a preset DP in their pay ware aircraft’s FMC, which often ends up being incorrectly programmed. Whatever the reason, it often leads to pilots turning right instead of left after departure, and having near head-on collisions with landing airplanes. In this article, you will learn how to fly the PORTE 3 departure correctly, without turning right.
