- VFR Departures from airports within the Class B surface area airports listed above must obtain a VFR Departure clearance to depart into the class B. Clearance should be obtained in the same process as an IFR departure clearance.
- VFR Departures from airports within the Class C surface area must establish two-way communications with the Tower. By convention, a VFR departure clearance shall be issued in the same process as within Class B airspace.
- VFR Arrivals or Transitions through Class B airspace require a clearance prior to entry. Clearance should be obtained by contacting the appropriate approach control or tower for surface area transitions.(see chart)
- VFR Arrivals or Transitions through Class C airspace require two-way communications with the appropriate approach control or tower prior to entry.
- Note - In general, Class "C" airspace is comprised of an "inner" ring extending out 5 miles from the primary field, and an "outer" ring extending 10 miles from the field. Contact Approach no less than 10 miles from the primary airport. The dimensions of the SFO Class B airspace is more complex. Refer to the graphic.
