Extra

Arrivals The GIVEN SIX and ALTTA EIGHT Arrivals are both simple and straight forward. The ALTTA EIGHT arrival has you fly from TULE (TTE) to ALTTA, from there you will expect VECTORS for any approach. Please note ALTTA is a Initial Approach Fix to many of the approaches for runways 29R and 29L. What this means to you, is that the controller may say, "After ALTTA, cleared ILS Runway 29R approach." This means, after you cross over the "ALTTA" intersection will will fly the entire approach from ALTTA all the way down to minimums.

Example

Your flight plan ends in "TTE ALTTA8". Right now Fresno is in North Ops, so they are landing on runways 29L or 29R. The controller has you cross ALTTA at or above 4,000 and then they clear you for the ILS Runway 29R Approach. What this means to you, is that you should plan to cross ALTTA at or above 4,000. What most pilots like to do is just to descend to 4,000 on the spot, to cross ALTTA at 4,000, or even be at 4,000 before ALTTA. From ALTTA you should fly direct to SANGO, and descend to at or above 2,000 the 1,800 published between SANGO and STORI. From SANGO you will cross STORI at 1,800 for the glide slope (GS) intercept and descend via the approach down to minimums. This is a very simple and brief demonstration, I highly recommend reading more about approaches and approach briefings to better understand how to fly them and get the most out of the chart.

The GIVEN SIX Arrival is a little more complex. From OAK to TOPPE it very straight forward flying. The approach may end at TOPPE if you are being vectored for either runways 11L or 11R, or. From TOPPE you must fly the DME ARC to IMYOG. It is important to know how to fly a DME ARC for this approach, or have proper FMC/GPS equipment onboard for the autopilot to fly the DME ARC for you. From IMYOG you will be vectored for runways 29L or 29R. Unlike the ALTTA EIGHT Arrival, you. IMYOG is not an IAF to any approach, nor is TOPPE.
