Man, I got totally slammed working this event up in ZSE. However, I would not think twice about putting up my "Controller for hire" sign again for this event! It was a lot of fun.

I think what made the difference is a concentrated amount of traffic in a small area. The event took place in an are less than 100 miles around I think. Imagine 40 some odd aircraft vying for this airspace within a span of 20 minutes or so. I think this would work really well in ZOA also.

Do you think we can get ZSE or whoever owns the patent to the Poker Run concept, to let us use it? It really was a lot of fun! And I was only working tower. I can only imagine the App/Dep guys above me.

What do you guys think?

Good idea.

No one owns the "patent". If you guys want to try a poker run out just get it on the VATUSA Events schedule and plan it.

If you need some help from people who have had success with a poker run in the past try speaking with people from LA and Boston in addition to Seattle - all of them have pulled off successful Poker Runs in the past year.

As Ian said - nobody owns the idea. I had emailed Jim Johnson, then-ZLA events coordinator, when setting up ours to ask his permission because I thought they had started it!

ZOA would be a great place to hold a poker run - for one thing, you guys have more controllers than we do, so if we can do it, you can. ;)

If you end up deciding to do it, let me know - I can send you some helpful stuff (like the images of the playing cards on the website, etc).
