I recently singed up with ZOA and just wanted to say hello and introduce myself.
I'm a CRJ700 driver based out of PDX and looking forward to working with some of you as I venture to the virtual "other side." (although it seems to be pretty darn close to the real thing - kudos to all the obvious real controllers who have made this possible).
After evaluating the various ARTCC's, ZOA appeared to be one of the best! Especially the training department, which seems to have some of the best information and curriculum available for a newbie. That's what made my decision easy. Very nice site overall!
Thanks in advance to the instructors and mentors that I hope to work with soon.
Sincerely,
Jeff Williams

Hi Jeff and welcome to ZOA. I studied a lot of the ARTCCs in VATSIM and visited websites and even looked in on the controlling a few times before making my final decision. And like you, I picked ZOA 'cause it looked to have a well defined study course with the materials easily accessable and easy to follow. And ZOA was only slightly less intimidating that ZLA (under whose airspace I currently live) so I figured it would be the best place.
I wasn't wrong! Everyone is friendly and ready to help, so I'm sure you'll be sitting at one of the SMT Class C towers in no time flat.
Again, welcome aboard and lookin' forward to meeting you out at 'work'.
James
