I was trying to plan a flight in the ZDV area and was looking at their site trying to get some charts and I have decided that our ZOA site is much easier to use. Their link to charts takes you to myairplane which our charts came from, but it is hard to navigate. The route planner (11th St.) gave me chart from their site for the POWDR5 STAR into KDEN but no link to terminal info etc. I did find something interesting (to me) and helpful. While reading about how to setup ASRC to use (ZDV style) I found this little blurb:
One of the new alias commands is .ff which allows the selection(s) of intersections.
.ff landr turns on the intersection LANDR.
.35l .ff dymon chola
the alias .35l turns on the KDEN Runway 35L OM DYMON and FIX CHOLA.
Repeating the alias .35l will turn the intersections off.
The first part of that I knew, but for some reason I didnt not know or realize that you could use .ff in that way.
Thus began my project to create .bsr2 .mod2 etc for my own use and I thought  "Hey, I wonder if my fellow controllers know this." So I thought I would share what I learned today.
Just 15 minutes ago this was a small personal project, which then grew to something I plan to post here (or in downloads if the PTB think it useful). Well, then I pulled up the variables and arguments of ASRC and though I have played with making/modifying alias files before I never got the hang of it, or finished. Now that I am Approach certified (and voice of course) I plan to work on making something that would be usefull to approach controlelrs who get the ocassional text aircraft. Check out this little pearl:
.porte3 Clr to $arr via porte3 dptr $1 trans. then as filed c/m $temp xpt $cruse in 10. Dptr on $feq($2). Sqk $squawk.
youd have to use the temp altitude (this came up about a month ago if I recall) or just change it to 5k (I'm taking suggestions for which would be best). I also have a variation for when not Dptr svc is available (but dont see I'll use it near as much now that I'm certified)
--anyway I have things I need to get to but I wanted to share that an poll for opinions on best structure.
