I hope this will be the first in a series of bi-weekly (roughly) updates on what the staff is up to. The rest of the staff and myself hope that this will generate discussion on current issues and let people know if there are opportunities to help if they are so inclined. So anyway, here's what the staff has been up to over the last two weeks or so.

Air Traffic Manager - David
My report is going to be the least exciting. I have spent the past several weeks catching up on VATUSA policies and procedures, as well as hiring a DATM, TA, and hopefully a Webmaster. In the next few weeks I hope to work with the rest of the staff to accomplish their tasks, as well work with others to review the SOPs, wiki and forum to help consolidate information and make sure it all agrees with each other. While continuing my normal duties of keeping open the lines of communication with VATUSA about various issues.

Roster/Membership - Chuck
Chuck has been doing an absolutely amazing job maintaining the roster and processing new members. In the last few weeks we have had many new controllers, several visitors and a few transfers. He has also spent time with me reviewing the procedures trying to improve them. In the upcoming weeks he will continue processing new and transferring controllers, as well as working with me on some other tasks.

Training - Greg
Greg has been working on the written exams. He has basically completed the SOP test and is working on the DELIVERY/GROUND and SFO Tower test. He has also been going through the wiki and making some minor changes to certain procedures and phraseology that reflects both our SOP?s and the 7110.65 respectively. His future projects include continuing to update written tests and the wiki, as well as training students and looking to add mentors and instructors to the staff.

Events - Lucas
Lucas has been keeping busy organizing and promoting events. He organized and advertised the widely successful SFO/OAK Real Time event, the recent Reno event, and numerous VA fly ins. He also continues to work on the event section of the website and provide great information to be pilots and controllers regarding each event! In the upcoming few weeks Lucas is planning the joint FNO with ZLA on the 17th and a possible Oakland event with FDX Virtual Cargo!

Facility Engineer - Chris
Chris has been busy at work combing through the sector file updating fixes, procedures, and geography to be accurate as these are constantly changing. He has released another alpha version of his sector file and continues to update fixes and tweak airport layouts until it is perfect! In the coming weeks, he and I are working together on implementing some automation in the upkeep of the fixes in the sector files, and there have been rumors of a secret project he's been spending time on!
