Please join me in congratulating Ernie Alston on his appointment as the new Facility Chief for Albuquerque ARTCC. For many of you ? Ernie needs no introduction, as he has been a part of VATSIM and the former SATCO since the first day of its existence. While serving as ZLA Facility Chief for 2 years, he helped put in place many of the foundations for that ARTCC which still exist today. Ernie has also authored various freeware and commercial software titles for our hobby.
Ernie?s long term vision for the ARTCC is what made him stand out from the crowd. He supplied a plan which addresses both improving the ARTCC infrastructure and attracting more traffic. He also shared a unique vision of training in ZAB ? with an emphasis on learning through experience and having fun while doing it.
Ernie never forgets that this is in fact a game and thus should be enjoyable, and in recognition of his approach towards communicating with others ? especially those who are learning/new ? he has been representing our network as a Supervisor for as long as any of us can remember.
I?d like to thank everyone who applied for the position. We received 14 applications for this post ? more than any other I have administered. I urge everyone who was not selected to contact Ernie and offer your assistance as he will need to add an AC, CI, and other positions to his team.
Good luck Ernie.
