Hey, all...

I don't know if this has been mentioned anyplace, but I just heard about this on the local news the other day.

KSJC's RWY 30L will be closed starting May 17; it'll reopen in October after they finish lengthening it.

You can read about it on the news page of SJC at the SJC Homepage (http://www.sjc.org).

Interesting... for a second there I thought I was in a time warp. ^_^

The fact that our SJC sector file still shows the shorter 30L from wayback... should we finally consider changing the sector file? I know we can't count on everybody's sim maps to be up to date, but perhaps some kind of two-color indication of the old and new runway lengths?

Bernie, that's a pretty good question. VATSIM usually doesn't adhere to real-world restrictions like tower hours and the like. For example, FIM burned down in last fall's wildfires (no joke, turned it into twisted metal) and I don't know if it's back up again. But in the sims, FIM is probably still working just fine.

I believe it's up to the ZOA board. It would be kind of cool to close the runway for six months. What d'you say, guys?

I haven't upgraded to FS2004 yet or I would be happy to modify the sector file to reflect the new larger runway. If someone else would like to learn the secrets of sector file editing let me know and I will teach you.

Teach away. I would love to be able to do this.

It would not be good idea to close that runway and use the other, I am not aware of any scenery out there that has the new runway. Then if there was, how many would actually have it? I would say we keep it as is for now.

Are we ready for the new style sector files which will be used in the next version of asrc?

I have cleared quite a few people for 30R. Of course they are all FS9'rs though. I'm for changeing the sector file to reflect the new length. If a pilot flying in the older version of FS, it wouldn't matter that 30R is longer or not. They are good to go. It is "wierd" to clear an FS9 pilot to a short runway and see them land short and go past the end of the runway. Also, hard to taxiing someone and getting it right.

I am also interested in sector file designing.

By the way, heard about the new sector files but can they be used now? Is the new ASRC up and running?
