So I got an A in my Aircraft ID course and missed one on the final... stupid mistake too. C150 instead of C152 (and the C150 wasn't even on the test so I should have known!!)

Anyway, how many aircraft do you guys know? Here (http://aeronautics.mtsac.edu/~rrogus/courses/41hints.html) is our study list for the final. Breakdown:

Six singles
Six twins
Six corportate turboprops
Six corporate jets
Six helecopters
Four military

and then he would pick ten airliners from the pool listed at the end of the list. How many identifiers do you know? If you know the identifier, could you pick the aircraft out of a set of pictures? Could you look at a picture and pick the right identifier?

I'm ruined... I spent last night commanding traffic and thinking, 'B757... narrow body, four exits...' and getting mental images of the aircraft in my head. I guess that's not exactly being ruined... but it's certainly something different! ^_^

Oh yeah, our professor has a good sense of humor, too. The first picture on the final was a burned-out tail section at a crash investigation site. Man, you never heard so much complaining from the class! Engine in the tail cone, intake above the fuselage, conventional tail assembly. Do you know it? ^_~

James,

Sounds like a lot of fun. That last one sounded like a DC10/MD90.

Or a 727....

It was the lovely L-1011 (engine in the tail cone, non-T-tail). Or, uh... not so lovely burned-out remains, in this case.

He did something like that to us in the regional aircraft quiz. A great shot of a Dornier D328 flying toward the camera, sillouhetted by the sun. Man, such complaining from the class, but he knew what was up. The next slide was a D328 on a taxiway with the title, 'Number 9, for my whiners'. ^_^

By the way, if you don't already know it, Airliners.net has an alpha-test quiz (http://www.airliners.net/quiz) available. It's mostly good, although sometimes you get some _whacked_ pictures. I got one the other day saying 'The Boeing in this picture is a...' and the picture was a cockpit shot! Got it right, though... three throttles, dead giveaway. :P

Or they'll say 'The Airbus in this picture is a...' and give you a photo of the passenger cabin. Not impossible, either...

Give it a whirl, it's quite fun.

James,

I just want to go on record as protesting your description of the engine in the tail. You said "above the fuselage".

The L1011's engine sits on top of, as does the 727. The DC-10'/MD90's engine is suspended ABOVE the fuselage.

Hmph :)

Hrpmh?

I believe I said 'engine in the tail-cone, intake above the fuselage'. Oh well, I knew it was a lousy description. I wish I could find the picture.

Here I am arguing with the new C3... again... ^_^
