Controller Training

Welcome to the ATC Training section of the Oakland ARTCC website!

We have attempted to provide you with all of the tools you will need as you start your journey towards a virtual career in Air Traffic Control. Below you will find descriptions of what the Training section has to offer:

SOPs/LOAs - Here you will find all the relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to controlling at ZOA, and Letters Of Agreement established with neighboring ARTCCs. These include:

Wiki - Written by ZOA controllers, for ZOA controllers! The training syllabus covers air traffic control concepts from many angles, with a local twist. You'll get step by step overviews of each procedure relative to your current rating, in order, with links to FAA Order 7110.65 for further study. Consider it your "ATC Ground School."

Mentors - These guys will be your first ATC teachers when you join as a new student. Here you'll find the list of current mentors, their qualifications and a brief overview of the Mentor Program.

Downloads - ASRC sector files and support, alias files, cheat-sheets and training diagrams, you'll find it all here!

Reference - In addition to studying the training syllabus, a thorough understanding of the VATUSA training study guides is crucial to your success as a ZOA controller. In addition you'll find pertinant publications from the FAA for your reference, including the Airman's Information Manual, Federal Aviation Regulations and most thorough and important source of ATC information; the FAA Order 7110.65.

If you have any suggestions or additions to the training program feel free to let me know - It's our goal to provide you the best training environment possible. Thanks again for choosing the Oakland ARTCC.
