Instructions for New Controllers

Firstly, for all our new students and transfers, welcome to ZOA! On behalf of the staff and your fellow controllers, we hope you have an enjoyable experience. ZOA features one of the most technologically advanced training systems on VATSIM with a dedicated team of mentors, instructors, and staff. None of these resources are valuable, however, until you take the initiative to use them. Here's how:

(1) Setup a new account on our forums, located at www.oakartcc.com/forums.

(2) Make an introductory post in the General forum if you wish; more importantly, make a post in the Training forum and request training on SFO_GND. Be sure to list some times you are available.

(3) While you are waiting for a response, you can begin reading our syllabus located under the ATC Training menu. Feel free to also browse the training material available at the VATUSA training department. All new students at ZOA will work to be certified at SFO_GND.

(4) ZOA has a team of dedicated controller mentors to assist you. To view a list of our mentors, access the Mentor page from the ATC Training menu. In a few words, our mentors will be responsible for most of your initial training and beyond, so get to know them! They will be the ones teaching you how to use VRC (our controller client) and about the procedures and information necessary to become a competent controller at ZOA. They are available to answer your questions.

(5) Always feel free to ask questions if you are confused! Make a post in the forum or feel free to e-mail any of your staff, mentors, or instructors. Again, welcome to ZOA.
